Would you say YES to a counter offer? My boss is offering to match my salary to the new job offer > 35% increment but my position remains the same, no add-on to the existing company benefits. But the new job offer will give me MANAGER title & slightly better benefits. What I like about my current company is Boss will allow WFH/take MC if needed, no question ask but career growth is very slow. I like the leniency + not ready to take more responsibilities but long-term wise, I'm not sure. WDYT?

It’s great that your boss values your contribution to the company & is willing to offer a significant raise w/o extra responsibilities. However, if your long-term goal is career growth, the chance to step into a managerial role could be a rare opportunity worth considering. It’s a good sign that the new company recognizes your potential and is ready to entrust you with leadership. For a seasoned professional, moving into management could be a strategic step with lasting benefits for your career.

First please forgive my brutal honesty. The question that springs to my mind is: do you need many WFH/MCs no questions asked? Why? If you need those cos you help with aged parents, kids, etc, then that’s justified. But if you need that flexibility to accommodate your lifestyle choices like late nights, etc, then that could be an issue. Are you ready for more responsibilities that a manager title brings? There’s no free lunch: as a manager, you’re also expected to lead and manage. All the best!

Think wisely bro. I’ve been in your shoes. I stayed once due to comfort, but ended up feeling stuck a year later (serves me right) Matching salary is nice, but if growth and title matter to you in the long run, maybe it’s time to level up.

You have to be careful with those percentage raise offers... I learned that a 300% raise of $0.00 brings my salary up to $0.00. I'm also still waiting on about 40 benefits packages that should arrive in the mail any day now.

Honestly, if you're not ready for more responsibility, staying could give you peace of mind. But also ahh, if you're thinking long-term growth and a manager title matters, that new role might open more doors later. Depends on your priorities now vs future!

Also, don't capitilize the work "boss" in this context. TBH if your boss is using those type of acronyms, I can almost guarantee it's not going to work. You wind up with a mgr title doing all the work, boss steals whatever is left of your non-existent salary, and tries to convince everyone that you are the sociopath... I digress... Just make sure it's on paper written in plain english and ask an expert to review it before you sign it... sign it with a pen for goodness sake.
